Department of Communication and Cultural Studies
Communication and Cultural Studies has been a leader and innovator in literary, media, performance and cultural studies for more than 25 years. It has pioneered courses in Australian Studies and was one of the first tertiary institutions to offer Journalism and Creative Writing as major streams. The program specialises in giving students the opportunity to combine theoretical studies with practical applications. Recently the program has led the development of New Media Narratives, and Ecology & Culture. In response to the changing world of digital print media and OnLine publishing, the program now offers one exciting new area in Professional Writing and Publishing.
The C&CS also works closely with the Media & Information program. This program remains one of the most exciting and innovative in Australia.
This forward-looking approach has made the program's courses strongly sought after, consistently attracting high quality undergraduate and postgraduate students. Many of its highly-qualified staff many of whom are nationally respected practitioners in their disciplines.
We are extremely proud to have had novelist Elizabeth Jolley as our permanent Writer-in-Residence.
